Freethought 2011

Come see me speak March 25-27 at the 2011 Northwest Regional Freethought Conference in Portland! I’ll be presenting twice: a keynote entitled “Living Without a Soul, Dying Without a God,” and then a dual-interview + audience Q&A with the inimitable P.Z. Myers, of Pharyngula fame.

Philanimalism

Philanthropists are fine, I guess, if that’s the way you roll. But what we really need is more people leveraging their fortunes for the betterment of the non-human natural world. Needing a word to describe that activity, I suggest: philanimalism. (Sadly, I am merely a co-discoverer here. The word appears in Anthony Trollope’s 1877 book The American Senator.)

Orthography

In Year 1 that useless letter “c” would be dropped to be replased by either “k” or “s,” and likewise “x” would no longer be part of the alphabet. The only kase in which “c” would be retained would be the “ch” formation, which will be dealt with later. Year 2 might well reform “w” spelling, so that “which” and “one” would take the same konsonant, wile Year 3 might well abolish “y” replasing it with “i,” and Iear 4 might fiks the “g-j” anomali wonse and for all.
